We decided to take highway 90 to save some miles. This does not appear to be the most efficient way. Hills were constantly rolling, much like kansas. none were terribly large or steep, but they came one after another. It's very difficult to keep momentum on a day like this, and with bags it is especially difficult. In general, the road had a good shoulder, but there were a few areas with little to no shoulder and there was also a few construction zones which made riding interesting.
Tallahassee was the only major town we rode through this day, and we took an early lunch at Cici's Pizza. Whoever decided that 3.99 for a pizza buffet was a good idea probably didn't know any cycle tourists.
Arriving in Chattahoochee was a little dissapointing. In my mind, the Alan Jackson tune was on repeat as we approached the town. Once we finally got there, I saw a generally run down town. Lots of neglected buildings, some less than desirable neighborhoods, and a few groups of people who may or may not have been engaging in illegal transactions shaped the landscape of the town as we rode by. We reached the main street in town, and it improved quite a bit. We stopped in Subway to eat, and tried to make a decision on where to camp. There was a state park about 5 miles further down the road, which cost 16 bucks. We called the RV park that was closest to the route (we are not fans of backtracking), and found out that not only was it 1/2 mile away, it was only $6.67 per night. Jackpot!
We set up camp, walked to the gas station, purchased some bottled beverages, walked to the river, and basked in the glory of yet another enjoyable day.
