Day 18 - Long Point Park to Cape Canaveral

Saturday.

As I let my tent dry in the sun, I went exploring Long Point Park (something I should have done on a rest day, I suppose). The campground is a little crowded, but many of the sites are on the water. It's set up in such a way where boat owners can launch their boats and then park them at the edge of their campsites. Pretty cool.

It also has a small island which is accessible by footbridge, so I wandered and took some photos.

I said my goodbyes to Tom and family, and continued north. This was without question the easiest day of my tour. If cycle-touring was always this easy, everyone would be doing it. OK, probably not.

The wind was at my back, the roads were pancake flat, and smooth as glass (not broken of course). 16-17mph was easy to maintain, I barely had to pedal once I got moving.

A few days ago, I had the "day of the Rolls-Royce". Today, I had a day of the classic V-Dub.
The first was in Satellite Beach, the second in Cocoa Beach (which happens to be the home of surfer, Kelly Slater).

I worked my way through the Saturday beach crowds and arrived safely at the home of my warmshowers host. My plan was to continue moving along tomorrow, but I've been talked into staying an extra day in Cape Canaveral and watching the shuttle launch on Monday morning. OK, OK, twist my arm.

Life is great. Sometimes the stars align just right, putting me in the right place at the right time with the right people.
