Sunday.
In the morning, the tents weren't covered in a thick layer of dew for the first time on the trip. We packed up and got moving because we had a big day planned.
Once again, the weather was warm, skies were clear, and wind was mostly at our back.
Today, we chose to deviate from the Adventure Cycling Southern Tier Maps, in an effort to save a few miles. This worked well as this part of highway 90 had a good shoulder. We also were able to stop in a town called Live Oak. There wasn't a single fast food place in the whole town (although they do sell electric cars), but we were starving and needed to eat before we pressed on. A stop at an innocent looking market yielded great results. Top notch carnitas, fresh warm tortillas, and some beans resulted in a lunch that would make any Chipotle lover jealous.
Jealous much?
We also met our first passing cycle tourists. They were heading east, and almost done with their journey.
For the third day in a row, the winds were at our backs, and we covered a lot of ground in short time.
We stopped in Monticello, and I tried to call our warmshower host for the evening. Somehow I managed to transpose two digits in the number and wasn't getting a hold of anyone. We ate dinner at a Pizza Hut, and then tried to figure out a gameplan. Eventually, after looking at the numbers, my error became clear, and we were able to get a hold of the right people. As darkness set in, we rode our final mile to a fantastic warmshower.
Diane was nice enough to provide a place to stay, and we hung out and chatted for hours with her. What a cool lady. We watched an episode of Iron Chef America, and went to bed, exhausted from a long day. Thanks again Diane and Maria!
