As we packed up our tents and ate our nutella covered bagels, sure enough we got another awesome surprise. Daryl and Fairon came to visit again, and this time had a whole bunch of breakfast foods. We ate pop-tarts, applesauce, and all kinds of goodies that we wouldn't otherwise have with us in a town lacking a market of any kind.
They also treated us to some selfish gratification by taking a bunch of photos of us riding. Most of our photos are of bikes leaned up on signs, so getting action shots was very exciting. (Once I get copies, I'll be sure to post them here)
A short nine miles into the day, we turned left and they continued on straight to continue their voyage. What we encountered can barely be described. The riding was fantastic. It wasn't too hot, the winds were mild, traffic non-existent, and scenery awesome. Jake was riding like a machine, so soon enough he became a speck in the distance and I was all alone. So glorious! The type of day that changes a life forever. I rode for hours and hours with a stupid grin, enjoying every last detail, every last moment, every last hill. This is what it's all about!
I passed into Arizona, screamed down the coolest section of downhill I've ever ridden and into a small town called Three Way.
Out of Three Way, it was instantly back on the uphill and the weather was getting hotter. However, it couldn't dampen my spirits at all. I just found a happy gear and rode on. Down the other side, the wind picked up, but again, I was still riding on clouds.
I turned east, and suddenly had a tailwind. The last few miles into Safford/Thatcher flew by and I met Jake and we laughed and laughed at how good of a day we had. We checked into a decent but not great RV park, and soaked in the last of a great day.
