Day 56 - Van Horn to Sierra Blanca

Tuesday. May 11.

I woke up today feeling crummy. The wind was forecast to continue, although with a little less velocity than the day before.

The winds had not yet strengthened, but surely by afternoon, they'd be howling again.

We decided to make a little progress and hang out in a town called Sierra Blanca. The 33 miles went by surprisingly quickly (helped in part by gaining an hour passing into Mountain Time Zone), although when we arrived in town I was physically wiped.

The town wasn't nearly as big as we had hoped for. A small spattering of mostly crummy motels, and abandoned looking RV parks didn't inspire much confidence. We asked where the grocery store was, and got pointed to a place called "Best Buy". This grocery store didn't even have milk.

We asked where we could buy milk. Apparently, the only place in town was the gas station. We found a motel that was mostly clean, got a room and I slept most of the afternoon away.

After a dinner of the finest gas station delicacies, I updated some blog stuff, and called it a day. Hopefully, the winds are calmer tomorrow and I feel better.

Day 52 - 33.56 Miles
Trip to Date - 3021.14 miles
Coast to Coast - 2018.69 miles

  2. Hey Chris, it's now the 15th and no new updates - are you okay?
Sounds like a dismal place to get holed up in!
